Ashley Beams, 32, of Toms River, was sentenced to five years in state prison on a guilty plea of vehicular homicide.
pleaded guilty to both chargesPolice were called to Bay Avenue near Twin Oaks Drive in Toms River about 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 8, 2022 for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Officers on the scene located James Cruz, 62, of Old Bridge, who had been struck during the crash, officials said.
Cruz was then pinned between the two vehicles and was carried a “significant distance” east on Bay Avenue before being pronounced dead on the scene, prosecutors said.
