Driver turns himself in after fatal hit-and-run in Rancho Bernardo [Breaking]
A driver turned himself in at police headquarters early Monday — about four hours after a fatal hit-and-run crash in Rancho Bernardo on Sunday night left a 33-year-old pedestrian dead, San Diego police said.
The collision was reported shortly after 8:15 p.m. Sunday on Bernardo Center Drive near Camino del Norte, police said. The pedestrian was crossing from the south to the north in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a white minivan, police said. After the collision, the driver of the van drove off, heading east.
Police and paramedics responded to the crash and transported the victim to the hospital, where he died. The name of the man who died was not released. About four hours later — around 12:25 a.m. — a man called police and subsequently turned himself in at San Diego police headquarters downtown. The vehicle was impounded, a police spokesperson said.
