The"fast actions" of a bus driver have been praised by firefighters after the vehicle carrying children on the school run burst into flames in Cambridgeshire.
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue tweeted that the bus caught fire at 8.30am on Wednesday as it drove through Bar Hill.The fire service tweeted:"Crews have been tackling a large fire involving a bus this morning in Bar Hill. The bus was travelling to Swavesey Village College. "Thanks to the fast actions of the driver, the bus was evacuated quickly and safely. The young people on board have been taken to school."Cambridgeshire Live reported
that the school sent out a message to parents and Claire Mills, acting headteacher, said:"This morning, a bus carrying 20 of our students caught fire on its route to the College. Thankfully, the fire started off very small and the bus driver was able to immediately evacuate all students from the bus and get them to a safe distance as quickly as possible.
