But he credits Houston with launching his career - specifically a May 8, 2009, show at Warehouse Live.
"All of a sudden, the lights dimmed," she says."There were so many times where he really didn't have to say a word because everybody in the venue was rapping word for word. We were squished. I was sandwiched in between people. I could barely see. But I was still rapping, going crazy." "It was already packed when I went onstage," she says."Being an opening act can be tough sometimes, but this was a great crowd. I was super excited when I got the call to open for him because I was, and still am, a fan of his music. The entire night was great energy. It's still one of my favorite shows to date."
Drake continues to put shine on the city. He started Houston Appreciation Weekend in 2014, a celebration that includes concerts, celebrity softball games and nightclub appearances. He even has a Houston Astros logo tattooed on his shoulder.He returned to Warehouse Live for a 2014 performance and presented the venue with a framed poster that reads"To the good people at Warehouse.
"Don't run from it, like Htown in the summertime, I keep it 100/Met a lotta girls in my times there, word to Paul Wall, not one fronted/I was birthed there in my first year, man I know that place like I come from it/Backstage at Warehouse in '09 like 'Is Bun coming?' "In 2016, Drake showed up at a birthday party for Jas Prince and performed a few songs atop the roof of Mo Mo's Chicken & Waffle in Fifth Ward.
