Drag show producers, ACLU file lawsuit against the city of St. George for rejecting their application for an event in a city park
ST. GEORGE, Utah — The producer of a drag show and the American Civil Liberties Union have filed a lawsuit against the city of St. George for rejecting their application for an event.
Avalōx told FOX 13 News on Tuesday that she wanted to stage the show in a park to send a message of unity and support for the LGBTQ community in southern Utah. "The City’s discriminatory denial of Plaintiffs’ permit application resonates with decades of mistreatment towards a marginalized community. It communicates to Plaintiffs, and to the broader LGBTQ+ community in St. George, that they are unwelcome and unworthy to exist in public spaces," the lawsuit said."Further, the City’s actions silence artistic expression in an effort to score political points under the mantle of being opposed to LGBTQ+ people’s civil rights.

Drag show restaurant files federal lawsuit against Florida and Gov. DeSantisA popular Orlando restaurant that regularly features drag shows has filed a federal lawsuit against the state of Florida and Gov. Ron DeSantis less than a week after he signed a bill targeting drag performances. The owner of Hamburger Mary’s Orlando filed the lawsuit Monday in Orlando federal court. The owner says the state is depriving the business of its First Amendment rights to free expression. The restaurant is asking the court to temporarily stop the law from taking effect. According to the lawsuit, the restaurant had hosted “family friendly” drag shows on Sundays, but the new Florida law is forcing them to ban children from all shows. This has led to a 20% drop in Sunday bookings.
