But at a news conference Monday, school board Vice President Auon’tai Anderson alleged Klaver also was potentially involved in putting students in the room.
Most of the employee’s allegations have been corroborated during the district’s investigation, Anderson said during a news conference Monday morning. Superintendent Alex Marrero publicly addressed the investigation for the first time Monday, noting that he made the decision to fire Dennis. The district will provide training to all McAuliffe staff on the district’s policies related to restraints, physical holds and seclusion before the start of school next week, Marrero said.
District officials have said they did not know about the seclusion room until they received the email from the employee last week, despite a work order being filed by the school requesting repairs to the room because of “multiple holes in drywall due to student rage and incarceration.”
