Foreign donors pledged $2.44 billion in aid to provide relief to millions of Afghans facing hunger, while bypassing the Taliban

The aid will provide relief to millions of Afghans facing hunger, while bypassing the Taliban’s increasingly repressive rule

Afghanistan has spiraled into near-universal poverty since the Taliban took over. Under international sanctions, the price of basic goods has surged, drought is worsening food insecurity and some have resorted to selling their organs. WSJ’s Margherita Stancati reports.

Forty-one countries and organizations committed $2.44 billion in humanitarian aid that will be used to support to 22.1 million Afghans, more than half the population, which according to the United Nations is facing “immediate and catastrophic levels of need.”
