It was not simply new for the Republican seeking a second term as president, but rather for the entire country. No sitting or former US president has ever before been indicted or forced to appear in court.
As several TV network helicopters followed his progress into the city, he made just a couple of brief waves when he arrived at Trump Tower, his long-time home on 5th Avenue, and whose gold escalators he famously made use of when he first announced his bid for the presidency in June 2015.. One of them, Joe Tacopina, told US broadcasters his client was “ready to go” and would never agree to a guilty plea, even for a lesser charge.
“Very unfair venue, with some areas that voted 1% Republican. This case should be moved to nearby Staten Island – Would be a very fair and secure location for the trial,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, posting from his office on the 26th floor of Trump Tower.
