After nearly 50 years of federal abortion protections, Roe v. Wade was overturned last summer. And now the fate of mifepristone is the target of a lawsuit filed against the FDA.
TEXAS — Texas is one of the 18 states to have outlawed abortions. Abortion-seekers turned to drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration to move forward in terminating their pregnancies, but that option could soon be void. Some obstetricians and gynecologists are against the abortion pill, mifepristone, and have made legal strides to do away with it.
“Reproductive justice activistS have been warning us for years what was going to happen because we didn’t have any other protections than Roe,” Ramirez said. “I’ve had people very close to me that were trying to go ahead and get pregnant,” Ramirez said. “But once this abortion ban passed, they’re not even trying to get pregnant anymore.”
Francis serves as the American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists CEO. Their legal counsel noted they’ve been challenging the FDA’s approval of the abortion pill for 14 years prior to the lawsuit.
