Ryanair has since apologised for the inconvenience, but said the situation was entirely beyond their control

A disabled man and his wife from Beeston were left stranded at Manchester Airport after being told they would be provided with transport back to East Midlands Airport . Stuart Tyler, 76, and his wife Angie, 65, found themselves with no assistance on Thursday, October 19, when they returned from their holiday to Malaga, Spain.

Because they arrived in Manchester at 11.15pm, no trains were available, which meant Stuart, who has severe arthritis in his knee, and his wife didn't have many options. The couple ended up being driven home by a friend, who drove 50 miles to their rescue. Stuart explained that because of his bronchiectasis, a long-term condition where the airways of the lungs become widened, being at the airport for five hours trying to find a way to go home meant he had to go on antibiotics. He also explained that, despite the airline being aware of his arthritis, he was put in a middle seat with no extra legroom.

"They just totally washed their hands of it and it also spoiled our holiday. It was fabulous and we went to some lovely places and it was also my birthday the day we were supposed to get back so it's extremely sad."
