Friendly’s restaurant demolished, opens way for new Hershey Co. chocolate plantAfter sitting vacant since its doors were locked in August, 2021, demolition of the former Friendly’s restaurant began Tuesday at the intersection of University Drive and Chocolate Avenue.
Last week, the Hershey Co. announced construction of the plant is expected to begin as soon as a former Friendly’s on the site at Route 422 and University Drive is demolished. The facility is part of Hershey’s multi-year investment strategy, which includes expanding existing facilities and developing new capabilities to drive production of Hershey’s core brands, according to a company press release.
Hershey said demand for its products is at an all-time high. In fact, since 2019 the company noted it has experienced sales growth in retail seasonal and snack size candies.
