It's been empty for years

The pub was set to receive a major makeover in 2021 but this was halted after the new licensee dropped out, meaning plans for the pub to reopen in Autumn 2021 never materialised. But now, three and a half years after its closure, detailed plans for a revamp aiming to bring the boozer back to life have been submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council.

The building, which is believed to have been constructed in the 19th century, would be fully redecorated to restore its currently run-down exterior to its former glory. The inside of the pub would also see an extensive refurbishment with new dining seating, updated floor finishes, and a new darts board among the changes.Planning documents explained the pub had become an "eyesore" for the local community.

Those behind the proposals explained the changes were needed to rejuvenate the premises and allow it to "provide the level of service that befits its prominent and historic position in the town". They added the works would "vastly improve the customer facilities and operational flow of the business", while respecting the historic setting.

In a planning document, Inventive Design Associates acting on behalf of landlord Star Pubs, said: "In preparing the refurbishment proposals, the company has sought, wherever possible, to respect the original layout of the building and to retain and enhance its original features. "It therefore proposes to refurbish the Interior by taking no character away from the heritage asset. Securing the future of the building as a business is crucial to securing the future of the building itself." The planning application is pending consideration by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
