Scorching heat in Denver hit the triple-digit mark — 100 degrees — on Saturday afternoon tying a record-high temperature for the date.
The 100-degree reading ties the high-temp record for June 11 in the city set in 2013, according to the National Weather Service.
Summer-like heat is expected to linger along the Front Range on Sunday and Monday, with more readings in the upper 90s and even above 100 degrees. The extreme heat will elevate fire concerns in widespread areas. Late-afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely to rumble through the region Saturday, with strong winds gusting up to 55 mph in a few isolated areas, the weather service said.On Sunday, heat hits Denver again under mostly sunny skies and a high temperature near 95 degrees, the weather service said. There’s a 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Widespread and isolated thunderstorms are expected in northeastern Colorado with winds gusting up to 55 mph as part of the storms.
On Tuesday the heat is expected to break a bit, with Denver’s high temperature backing off to around 86 degrees. It will be breezy, and there’s a 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
