Actor Dennis Quaid has released his debut gospel album “Fallen” and said it was birthed as a result of his faith journey while overcoming an addiction to cocaine.
The Emmy award-winning actor is known for his roles in Great Balls of Fire!, The Rookie, and The Parent Trap, among other films. He told Jesse Watters Primetime that his cocaine addiction was a struggle during his acting career.“It kept me up at night. A lot of sleepless nights, you know, going to bed, going to work with one hour of sleep sometimes,” Quaid said. While acting, Quaid was also a musician and in a band. He explained that they broke up because of his addiction.
“But I had one of those experiences when I got home that night. I saw myself, you know, either being dead or in jail or losing everything that was really important to me, and I put myself into rehab the very next day,” Quaid explained. “I think I was kind of known as a bad boy. Yeah, I was playing bad boy parts. But you know, cocaine was just pervasive back then. And, you know, hardly anybody was hiding it. It was in movie budgets.
“You know, went through it, got through it. And, you know, it leaves a hole in your life,” the actor added. “Everybody has that hole that they try to fill. And, you know, my faith was the thing that really got me through that.”Quaid said that his faith led him to produce his album"Fallen," explaining that it is a reflection of his spiritual journey.
“It is a combination of hymns from the Baptist church that I grew up in and songs that I wrote that are very personal,” Quaid said.
