Del Toro's Pinocchio is a grueling movie full of war, death, and what it means to be human, and that's why Frankenstein has so much potential.

Writer/director Guillermo del Toro is developing a Frankenstein remake for Netflix, and his harrowing take on Pinocchio with the 2022 stop-motion movie proves audiences aren't ready for it. Del Toro is a filmmaking auteur who has always created fantastical romance movies and monster flicks that are oddly melancholic and introspective.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY And now, it has been reported that Del Toro's Frankenstein is coming to Netflix and that he's well underway with the screenplay and is considering the cast. This project follows another successful collaboration between Netflix and the director, Pinocchio. While it's technically a children's movie, del Toro made one of his most heartbreaking and emotionally exhausting movies yet.

Pinocchio makes a lot of changes to the story too, and part of del Toro's Pinocchio is set in 1917 during World War I. This added to the dour tone and forced audiences to confront the terrors of war, which heavily contrasted with characters being fearful of an innocent puppet. Though Frankenstein's period isn't confirmed, it could be set during wartime and act as some sort of analogy, just like most of del Toro's monster movies.

How Del Toro's Frankenstein Casting Rumors Support Its Promise It has been reported that del Toro is considering some big names for Netflix's Frankenstein cast. Del Toro has spoken with Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, and Mia Goth about roles in the upcoming movie . Del Toro has been working on Frankenstein for years, so the fact that it has so much interest from a great cast is a huge payoff for the filmmaker.
