What began nearly a year ago as a giant hole in the ground is now Deer Park High School's new softball/baseball complex, soon to be ready for games and excited crowds of fans.
"The scoreboard is up, the lights are working, the bleachers are almost completely done, we've got fans under the canopies, the locker rooms have lockers in them," Deer Park ISD Athletic Director Darren Chandler said."We'll be ready to go. We may be short some office furniture at the start of January, but as far as playing games, we're ready."
"I was a little fearful because the deadline was so close to the season," said Chandler of the work schedule for the multimillion-dollar complex.Doll Forrest Field, the program's old location on the high school's South Campus, is expected to be turned into a parking lot. The lighted dugouts will be five times roomier than at the old location and will be wheelchair-accessible via a ramp with railings leading down to the dugouts.
