Superman & Darkseid's blood feud lives on in their sons as Jon Kent starts a bloody new rivalry with a New God enemy - one with a definite winner. The clash comes in the twisted world of Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League - Superman 1, out now.
One of the greatest rivalries in the DC universe - Superman's ongoing battle against the forces of Darkseid - can be traced back decades. Now, a new alternate reality tale has envisioned the feud between the Man of Tomorrow and the God of Apokolips extending into the next generation.
An alternate take on the life of Superman's son, Jonathan Kent, serves as the primary focus of Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League - Superman #1, a tie-in issue to DC's ongoing Dark Crisis event. As the title suggests, the issue follows Clark and Jon in a world in which no Justice League exists, allowing Jon to actually grow up with his father like a normal teenager.
The issue, like the Dark Crisis event, focuses heavily on family and legacy as themes, with these two sons adopting a rivalry similar to that of their fathers. Like Superman, Jon takes several heavy beatings from his New God opponent, a physical equal, before eventually prevailing, determined to save innocent lives from the tyrannical rule of Apokolips. By the end of the issue, Orion's ultimate fate is left unclear, but Jon makes it clear that he's been defeated in a meaningful way.
Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League: Superman #1 largely focuses on Jonathan Kent trying to make his own way in the world, as most teenagers do. Yet sometimes, the sins of the father are unavoidably visited upon the son. As Superman's son takes to space to fight Darkseid and his army, a New God nemesis of his own shows that their fathers' blood feud is one that spans generations.Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League - Superman #1 is available from DC Comics now.
