WHEN I took up my column in the Glasgow Times, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t pull any punches and that I would always be honest with our readers – even if it annoyed the odd SNP press officer from time to time.
Infuriating because the biggest issue people face right now is the cost-of-living crisis and sky high energy bills and I want my colleagues to be talking about that. Likewise, opposition parties probably quite justifiably think that all their Christmases have all come at once just now and are sensing an opportunity to capitalise on it.As I see it, there are two options for us and the party stands at a fork in the road - we turn in on ourselves and indulge with internal party navel gazing or we focus on what really matters most to people – the cost-of-living crisis.
Families face the invidious choice of paying for sky rocketing gas and electricity bills or eye watering weeklyshops, so we need to do more to help them. That’s why we want to see an increase in child tax credits, working tax credits and universal credit to help those on low incomes deal with rising costs.
