Dauphin County commissioners honored Brandon Miller's teamwork with Harrisburg police officers last week after a boy accidentally overdosed.

“Co-responders” ride with Harrisburg police saves 3-year-old’s lifeBrandon Miller and Harrisburg police Officer Nathan Ishman responded to the 1900 block of Fulton St. in uptown Harrisburg last week for a 3-year-old boy in cardiac arrest.

Miller’s quick action and teamwork with police officers helped to save the boy’s life and resulted in him being honored Wednesday at a special Dauphin County Commissioners meeting. Miller is one of more than a dozen “co-responders” in the county partnering with police officers on calls to deescalate situations and cut arrests from mental health incidents.

With an ambulance still far away, Harrisburg officer John Doll arrived arrived at the scene and helped load the child into his patrol car. They rushed to the hospital, according to Ishman. During the 10 a.m. meeting, commissioners Mike Pries, George P. Hartwick, and Chad Saylor gave Miller a certificate of appreciation.

The co-responder program was developed through Dauphin Counties Criminal Justice Advisory Board. It was financed by a $180,548 grant from the state Department of Human Services and the county’s Violent Crimes Task Force.
