The legal action against the groups is for their role in storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6
Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine said Tuesday his office has filed a civil lawsuit against right-wing extremist groups, including the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers and their leaders, for their role in storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6, alleging the groups conspired to take part in the"planned terrorist attack."...
Racine claimed the groups were largely responsible for the violence, calling their members “vigilantes, insurrectionists and masters of a lawless mob.” The lawsuit seeks damages caused by the rioting, including medical costs for injured D.C. Metropolitan Police officers.“It was like 9/11—a planned terrorist attack,” Racine said. “January 6 was, to say the least, a deadly, brazen and violent attack that terrorized this city.”Extremist groups loyal to former President Donald Trump were present in D.C.
and Oath Keepers, among other groups. The groups are required to turn over documents relating to their actions on January 6, and their leaders must appear for depositions or face potential contempt of Congress charges.
