Curtis Jones was shown a first red card of his professional career for a tackle on Yves Bissouma
Liverpool were handed a major blow when Curtis Jones was sent off in the 26th minute against Tottenham Hotspur.
Jones went over the ball into Bissouma’s ankle - but only after making contact with the ball in the first place. The ECHO understands that the original decision was overturned due to the Liverpool midfielder's studs showing and making contact above the ankle - prompting an offence that officials judged to be serious foul play.
Not even 10 minutes after the initial VAR decision overturned Jones' yellow card into a red, Luis Diaz was denied a goal after the flag went up straight away - and a rapid VAR check confirmed the decision, which replays suggested was very tight.
