Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman, who has a tattoo of Jackie Robinson on his right calf, pitched for the first time on the day honoring his hero.
“My legs are pretty much dedicated to African American heroes of mine,” he said. “So yeah, I’ve been looking up to Jackie for a while. I’m very aware of what he did in order to allow me to go out there on the field and play and what he had to endure. I can only imagine the racism being hurled not only at himself, his family, and being able to go out there and still perform through all that, that’s like a true pioneer, a trailblazer.
“I’m very, very thankful for everything that he did, not only this game but the for the entire world.”
