A steward who allegedly raped an 11-year-girl from Arizona aboard a Norwegian Cruise Line ship last June has been hit with a lawsuit.
Clifford then left the room and returned a second time, claiming he was going to teach the girl to make towel animals. The federal lawsuit described his behavior as an attempt to “groom” the 11-year-old, identified as Janie Doe in the court filings. Janie Doe and her mother, who was given the alias Jane Doe, reported the incident at 9:30 p.m. that night, before being sent to the ship’s infirmary.
Keith S. Brais, the lawyer representing the girl and the family, wrote in the lawsuit that Norwegian Cruise Line"fails to take reasonable measures to ensure the safety of children in cabins" .
