Figures obtained through a Freedom of Information request have revealed that wait times for purple calls - where patients are identified as having a 10 per cent or more chance of having a cardiac arrest – increased in every local authority area except Shetland.
A 'critically ill' Glasgow patient waited over two hours for an ambulance as figures have revealed increasing response times for emergency care.
Glasgow had the highest wait time with one person waiting two hours and a minute to a critical call in 2023. Aberdeen had the second highest response time with one patient waiting one hour and 54 minutes, reports the Record. A Highland patient waited eight hours and 58 minutes for a response in this category, followed by eight hours and 55 minutes in Aberdeen. The Scottish Liberal Democrats - who obtained the figures - called for Health Secretary Neil Gray to find ways to help ambulance staff.
"The SNP continuously ignored ambulance staff, who have been warning of pressure cooker conditions for years. Their refusal to listen has caused intolerable pain for patients and put staff under extreme pressure.
