Crews douse fire at La Mesa apartment complex [Breaking]
A woman and her pets were rescued after fire broke out in her La Mesa apartment Tuesday morning, a fire agency official said.
The woman reported the fire just before 7:50 a.m. at the complex on Buckland Street, northwest of Jackson Drive and Fletcher Parkway, Heartland Fire & Rescue spokesperson Andy McKellar said. She was not injured, but was taken to a hospital to be evaluated for possible smoke inhalation, McKellar said. Crews were able to douse the fire in the second-floor unit. The apartment underneath it sustained water damage, he said.
The Red Cross was called into assist the displaced residents, McKellar said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
