On July Fourth, the Crew will get a chance to earn revenge against an Inter Miami team that won the first meeting this season.
Tuesday night, the Crew have a chance to add another opponent to the list. It won’t be at home, and it’ll be on a quick turnaround, but a Fourth of July matchup with Eastern Conference cellar-dweller Inter Miami provides the latest opportunity for a Crew team that has spent the last month climbing the standings.
After Saturday’s 2-1 home win against the Red Bulls, the Crew reclaimed the top scoring mark in MLS with 40 goals in 20 games. Columbus is third in goal differential at plus-13 and recorded a 2-0 win against Nashville on June 24 for its first shutout in more than a month and just its second since April 8. That came against the same Nashville team that beat the Crew 3-1 on May 29.
“After that, it’s hard to complain against this team,” Moreira said. “They play well. They scored two goals. They defend a lot. Now, we need to take care of some revenge away.” “To be honest, I expected at least a Wednesday game,” midfielder Alex Matan said. “We played Saturday night and you cannot really sleep after the game that much. It’s pretty tough, but we are used to that.”
