Rep. Dan Crenshaw claimed it's a mistake for those who support Rep. Jim Jordan for speaker of the House to attack other candidates.
Crenshaw appeared on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday to comment on Jordan's likelihood to garner 217 votes, which would give him the speaker's gavel. This comes nearly two weeks after Rep. Kevin McCarthy was ousted from the position."It’s impossible for any member of our conference to get 217 true believers — 217 people who truly think you’re the best, right?" Crenshaw said.
At first, Rep. Steve Scalise was the speaker designee before he withdrew his name when he couldn't get enough support to secure the role in a floor vote. In the meantime, Rep. Patrick McHenry is the speaker pro tempore. Scalise will remain the Majority Party Whip. "What I would remind the members who are against Jordan, you know, because his reputation proceeds him. But his reputation has changed over time," Crenshaw argued."He has become part of the solution, not part of the problem. He has long since been part of the solution. A lot of good conversations with him, I’ve gotten to know him. There’s a reason I support him."Jordan also has the endorsement of Reps. Nancy Mace , Matt Gaetz , and Andy Biggs , who voted to oust McCarthy.
