COVID-19 case counts in the Naperville area are at their lowest levels since August, and the hospitalization count at Edward Hospital is back to single digits.

The Naperville hospital reported nine people receiving in-patient treatment Tuesday, the seventh consecutive day the count was below 10. That hasn’t happened since July, according to hospital data.

Only 307 new COVID-19 cases were reported over the last two weeks in Naperville. The case count is at its lowest since August. However, that’s not to say someone who’s vaccinated can’t be infected — some variants, like omicron, can still be contracted but the illness should be less severe. “There are still a substantial number of people who were not infected” this winter, Pinsky said.
