A civil court judge cleared Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes of any wrongdoing in case brought by employee

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes is being pressured to resign by rank-and-file copsA civil court judge has cleared Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes of any wrongdoing in the lawsuit filed by Henry Hernandez, the media specialist who claimed to be the victim of retaliation in part for refusing to process what he said were “inappropriate” photos of Valdes and her husband.

Valdes’ attorney, Elizabeth Moon, labeled the allegation “scandalous” “impertinent” and “abusive” in her brief to the court and ultimately “irrelevant” to the case—and the judge agreed. The judge allowed the case to proceed, but on much narrower legal grounds and without Valdes as a defendant.Valdes worked under Chris Christie when he was U.S. Attorney for the State of New Jersey. In 2009, she was chosen by Governor Jon Corzine to be Passaic County Prosecutor, making her the first Latina to hold that position in the state.

Governor Phil Murphy reappointed Valdez to a third term in 2020, but the state Senate has yet to ratify the choice and she is a holdover.
