Husbands Frankii Collins and Dave Langley have been successfully creating a Halloween haunt at their home in New Brighton for over 20 years, inspired by a visit to the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland in America.
A lot has changed when it comes to celebrating Halloween, with some of the most memorable traditions being lost and costumes and treats no longer being as basic as they once were.
The following year, they moved to Serpentine Road in Wallasey and decided to make their idea more elaborate and from there, its popularity continued to grow. As part of the Liverpool ECHO's How It Used To Be series, we spoke to Frankii and Dave about how Halloween celebrations have changed through the decades and the memories they've created on their doorstep.
Trying to create a spooky scene with limited decorations on offer, Frankii and Dave searched high and low in the shops and started out by hand-making the likes of gravestones and buying a fog machine to create the scene of a haunted house. After their first haunt on Serpentine Road, they received knocks on the door from teenagers thanking them and asking if they were going to do it again next year and since then parents have been bringing their children to the displays year on year.
"We purchased them ourselves every year from an online wholesalers and we would sit there for weeks bagging them so there were so many sweets in each bag and then we'd put stickers on them so no kid was left out and got the same amount of sweets. The bags were always sealed and the sweets were always covered, it was safe and then we got to the point where a good friend of ours, Paul Warrington, was helping us each year.
Have you ever visit the Halloween haunt on Serpentine Road? Let us know in the comment section below. Dave said: "We’re thankful and one thing we are pleased about is that locally when we started, no other house here did the sort of thing we did and when you walk around now, just in the last few days there's three or four houses just around our road all decorated.
