North Lanarkshire Council will reduce its holiday hunger programme as a result of funding cuts.
The number of mainstream venues – which includes schools and voluntary organisations- offering children free meals outside term time will be reduced from 18 to 12, though six additional support needs schools will also become involved in the programme.
At a recent full council meeting, members were asked to vote on whether to run the full summer programme, which was anticipated to use almost all of the available budget, or to accept the reduced programme with a view to having money left over to allow for further activities. The matter was resolved with a vote but no debate. Council leader Jim Logue moved for the second option and the vote was decided with 64-10 in favour of this.
