As Bishop Greg Townsend was revealed to fans on Coronation Street in the wake of Billy Mayhew's wedding, fans at home couldn't help but beg for ITV to make him a permanent fixture
Just 24 hours after Paul Foreman and Billy Mayhew tied the knot in a poignant ceremony, trouble appeared to be on the horizon for the loved up couple when their marriage was rumbled by Weatherfield’s Bishop Greg Townsend.
The intimate moment was captured only by the couples closest loved ones, including daughter Summer Spellman who documented the special occasion with a series of polaroids, however one of them was sadly dropped and discovered by the church warden - who promptly brought the matter to the attention of the Bishop.
However in an unfortunate twist, it soon emerged that the church warden had shared the photo online, prompting public outrage from many members of the congregation and immediately placing Billy’s future with the church in jeopardy, despite the Bishop’s initially lenient stance. One fan wrote: “Make the Bishop a permanent character he’s brilliant!” Before cheekily adding: “Also very fit so some eye-candy for when Stephen leaves next week.”A third viewer then commented: I want a sitcom of the bishop from #Corrie and Walter from Emmerdale and I want it now."
