It was no surprise to see Democratic Texas gubernatorial candidate O'Rourke weaving through the crowd, just before The Chicks took the stage, Saturday night at the Woodlands Pavilion.

In 2020, they dropped Dixie from their name because of its connection to slavery.
There were a few boos. Maines, who was wearing a shirt featuring the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, pointed out someone near the front of the stage. Following an opening set by songwriter Patty Griffin, and a barrage of fierce women videos that included Lesley Gore, Donna Summer and Heart, The Chicks kicked off with the raucous “Sin Wagon.” The crowd energy was palpable.“Gaslighter” was the first taste of the group’s excellent 2020 album. They sounded fantastic, and Maines is tremendous at using her voice to channel conviction in its purest form. It's easily the most entertaining concert I've attended this year.
The anthemic “March Match” was the set’s most stunning, sobering moment. It started with a list of U.S mass shootings and included images of Pride flags and abortion activists. It ended with a list of people of color who were killed by police.
