Happy birthday, Marjorie
A hardworking, community volunteer who served in the Land Army has shared her joy of turning 100. Having lived in Bestwood Park for more than 60 years, Marjorie Copley has also met Queen Elizabeth ll.
Up until three years ago, Ms Copley was still active with her work in her community and, at that time, she was the first person to receive an award for the longest serving volunteer for a women's voluntary service. Ms Copley worked at the John Player cigarette and tobacco factory from the age of 15. She said: “I worked there before the war when I had left school.
During Ms Copley's time living in Bestwood Park, she has spent many hours volunteering and dance instructing at the Bestwood Community Centre. She said: “I’ve done a lot at the community centre, dancing there and feeding people. I’ve liked travelling, you go to so many places, you can’t remember.
