The GOP-led U.S. House led a near-shutdown, again, of the federal government. The shutdown was avoided at the last minute, as Congress kicked the can to mid-November.
There’s a sieve-like Southern border. The federal government hasn’t supplied enough support for sanctuary states, like Illinois, who have welcomed the thousands of undocumented streaming into Arizona, California and Texas. Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, was in slo-mo mode in calling for the resignation of Menendez. The septuagenarian eventually followed our junior Democrat senator, Tammy Duckworth, who was among the first to call for Menendez to step down.
Authorities discovered nearly a half-million dollars in cash, and another $100,000 in gold bars, in his New Jersey home. Doesn’t everyone have gold ingots stashed in their abodes?Besides that cache, the indictment also alleges Menendez and his wife, Nadine, accepted a Mercedes-Benz convertible, home furnishings and mortgage payments. All, allegedly, in exchange for stealth support of the dictatorial Egyptian government.
