Right now, it’s clear that the risk of encountering the virus is low, so Coloradans who are tired of public health restrictions should seize the moment, said Dr. Jon Samet, dean of the Colorado School of Public Health.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment reported 80 people were hospitalized statewide with confirmed COVID-19 as of Tuesday, which isn’t substantially different from the 84 it counted a week earlier.
The virus will keep mutating, possibly forcing people to take precautions again in the future, he said.The data doesn’t provide many clues as to how long the lull might last. New cases rose slightly, from 2,071 in the week ending March 27 to 2,241 in the week ending Sunday. The percentage of tests coming back positive has bounced around 3% for the last two weeks, with no clear direction.
Right now, there’s significant uncertainty about how to understand the numbers, since so much testing has moved from publicly run sites and doctors’ offices — where all tests and cases are reported to local health departments — to homes, where few or none are.
