After reaching 90 degrees during the afternoon, active weather is expected to return to South Texas late Monday
After a warm and cloudy weekend, even warmer weather is expected in South Texas on Monday. In fact, high temperatures are expected to reach 10 to 15 degrees above average for the first day of April. Thankfully, the heat will be short-lived as a cold front will push through San Antonio late Monday night. Before we can enjoy the cooler weather, the front will bring a chance of severe thunderstorms through the region. Here’s how the next 24 hours will play out.
A few storms could produce severe weather in South Texas, including large hail, damaging wind gusts, or even an isolated tornado. The Storm Prediction Center has placed a large part of Central and South Texas under a Level 2 out of 5 risk of severe thunderstorms. This includes much of the I-35 corridor, including San Antonio, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Austin, and Waco. Farther north, a Level 3 of 5 risk of severe weather has been issued for North Texas, including the DFW Metroplex.

Will San Antonio Have Another Strong Cold Front This Year?As winter transitions to spring, temperatures have started to increase here in South Texas. Since Feb. 22, San Antonio has recorded 11 days with high temperatures of at least 80 degrees. That being said, a lot of us are not ready to say goodbye to the cold weather. Unfortunately for cold weather fans, strong cold fronts become less common in the spring, as opposed to mid-winter. Which brings up the question: Will San Antonio have another strong cold front this year? Or is the cold weather already done? To find the answer, let’s take a look back at history. Here’s what we found We looked through San Antonio temperature data from the past 30 years and focused on April and May. We found every instance where high temperatures dropped at least 15 degrees from one day to the next. If it did, we considered that to be a strong cold front. In the past 30 years, strong cold fronts have actually occurred in April quite often. In fact, April has had at least one strong cold front 60% of the time.
