Coffee prices are rising by the week, and small businesses and coffee consumers are taking the hit.
"We’re not making any money on the drip coffees anymore because the cost of coffee has gone up so much," said Andrea Parrish, owner of Victor’s Celtic Coffee in Redmond, Washington."We’ve increased prices 6% over the last two weeks. ... Everybody’s basically taking a hit."
Coffee customers Frank Curtiss and his wife said they have noticed higher coffee prices as well, Fox 5 reported. "If it keeps going at some kind of rate like this, eventually it would have to factor in for us," Curtiss explained.Parrish said roasters are trying hard not to place the burden of higher prices on their customers.
Caffe Lusso owner Philip Meech said he's noticed a trend of people making their coffee at home to avoid the higher prices. "They’re buying a really nice machine and buying a really good roasted coffee and brewing at home," Meech said."With where prices are going right now, our monthly average of cost might go up $6,000 to $8,000," Meech continued.
