The initiative began through a relationship with Carl Frampton and South African World Champion boxer Zolani Tete
A Co Antrim boxing club have recently returned from a life changing visit to South Africa where their young people had been volunteering in a number of orphanages.
"Carl Frampton was fighting Zolani Tete in 2019 and he needed somewhere to train, so he came to use our facilities," project coordinator Amy Stewart said. "One of the things that strikes the young people and the staff is that each of these homes have one person responsible for looking after the children.
While in South Africa, some of the fighters were able to access training facilities and attend a South African world title fight."Sometimes, we get caught up in the daily grind and what our society it and this has given them a better outlook because they see that there are kids out there who have nothing and are still some of the happiest kids in the world.""When we arrived it was overwhelming driving through the towns and seeing all of the shacks," he said.
