The organization, which assists people who have blindness or vision impairment, was to become a tenant in a building meant to be constructed in the park by Brandt Properties Ltd. This building was to replace the old CNIB building that once stood on the location.and its CEO called the project “basically dead,” CNIB says it has been left “in the place where we found ourselves nine years ago, seeking a new affordable and accessible space to serve our community.
The organization’s statement initially says, “CNIB’s involvement with the Wascana Park project is and has always been about the community we serve and our mission to change what it is to be blind in Regina.” “Our goal with this project was to create an accessible building and make the park more inclusive and accessible for people living with vision loss.”Article content
A land titles search indicates the province still owns the land, and a spokesperson for the Provincial Capital Commission confirmed that CNIB signed a lease with the province for a 2.52-acre parcel of the land on July 12, 2016 for a term expiring in 2115.
