The city’s Department of Public Works has lengthened the hours at several centers for residents who need shelter. Regularly scheduled recreation programming will continue; however, each site will have areas in the facility where people can relax and stay warm.
“We put the warming centers in geographical locations in the city so people can walk up and take advantage of those shelters,” Samuel Gissentaner, the commissioner of Cleveland’s recreation department, said. Despite transportation not being available to take residents to the center, he also encouraged residents to call 311 if they notice someone may need assistance seeking shelter.
