Mark Clattenburg has been speaking following the controversy involving Liverpool during their game with Tottenham
Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg believes a basic breakdown in communication was the reason behind Luis Diaz's goal being wrongly ruled out in Liverpool's controversial 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.
The ECHO understands PGMOL chief Howard Webb reached out to Liverpool to offer an apology for the disallowed goal after the final whistle, with a review now taking place over the incident. The Reds also took the unprecedented step of releasing a statement about a decision in a match and accused the PGMOL of undermining sporting integrity on Sunday night.
“They should have been under no illusions Diaz had been flagged offside. But for whatever reason, England and Cook thought the on-field decision was onside. “The PGMOL have spent significant money to improve how VAR is applied but we are still seeing decisions as poor as these. It is a harsh lesson for England and Cook and they will not make this mistake again."
