, but most recently I’ve been working with Vanish and the charity Ambitious about Autism to help spread awareness.
I’ve struggled with autism for the majority of my life without realising, but one thing was consistent: I didn’t like change. It’s something I noticed from the clothes I was wearing to the routines I was keeping. Looking back, this makes so much sense to me. I remember modelling when I was younger and telling the photographer that the clothes felt scratchy, but I was told I just had to get on with it – so I did although it made me very anxious. Nowadays I have my grey hoodie as something that gives me comfort. For my threeIt’s important for many autistic people who have familiarity with an item of clothing to ensure it lasts as long as possible, so it can continue to help regulate their senses.
I masked my behaviours to try and fit in, often mirroring people by laughing when others laughed without knowing whether or not it was sarcasm. There are so many of us with autism that just don’t realise, because we’re unsure what cues to look for within ourselves.mislabelled or left undiagnosed
