Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) re-upped his criticism that former President Donald Trump will be a drag on the GOP if he becomes the standard bearer in 2024.

Trump's support among Republican primary voters appears to have been further cemented over recent weeks amid apparent backlash to his indictment, but Sununu surmised that is a temporary bump and that the GOP will soon wake up to reality."[Trump] drags that ticket down,” Sununu told NBC's Meet the Press. “I think that reality is going to really come to bear through the primary process. So I understand folks are supporting him.

A frequent critic of Trump, Sununu has been mulling a 2024 run of his own. He added that uproar against the onslaught of inquiries against Trump may not necessarily"translate into a vote" and noted that voters often don't make up their minds until closer to election day.“Republicans want someone who can win in November of ‘24. Donald Trump is a loser. He has not just lost once. He lost us … our House seats in 2018,” Sununu said. “He lost everything and ‘20. We should have 54 U.S.

Coinciding with his electability concerns, Sununu also bashed Trump for failure to deliver on the assortment of promises he made, such as the border wall. “[Trump] said he was going to go to Washington and drain the swamp. He didn’t do it,” Sununu added. “He said he was going to build a wall and secure things. He didn’t do it. He said he was going to give us healthcare reform and be fiscally disciplined, not add $8 trillion to the debt. He didn’t do any of those things. And so we want fighters that can actually win.

Sununu also echoed host Chuck Todd's assertion that 2024 hopefuls will have to make a decision by the Fourth of July.
