More than sixty leading children’s authors have signed an open letter to the Home Office expressing their “shock and grief” at the order to paint over Mickey Mouse murals at a centre for lone children seeking asylum in the UK mollyblackall reports
“Seeing the painting felt like the UK giving us a welcoming message. I was exhausted and almost falling asleep, but the only thing I remembered from the place was the smile of Mickey Mouse,” one told.
“Our priority is to stop the boats and disrupt the people smugglers. The Government has gone further by We are writing to express our shock and grief that you ordered the cartoon murals at the Kent Intake Centre in Dover to be painted out. It seems strange and cruel to remove murals which might help to make children feel reassured, while at the same time trying to improve the facilities.
