Schools have written to parents about the strict new rules
in the summer about low vaccination rates and a rise in measles cases.
Between 1 January - 30 June this year there were 128 cases of measles compared with 54 for the whole of 2022. The agency said that immunisation levels are particularly low in London – just 70% in some areas – sparking fears of possible outbreaks. For this reason, children who haven't been vaccinated with the MMR jab – that protects against measles, mumps and rubella – face having to isolate for 21 days if a classmate is infected with the potentially deadly illness.
'Children who are fully vaccinated do not need to be excluded from school or childcare. Vaccination can help keep your child in school.'The NHS explains that measles is a 'highly infectious viral illness that can be very unpleasant and sometimes lead to serious complications.
