The grand marshals of the 45th annual South Side Irish Parade will be the chaplains of the Chicago police and fire departments, and the honoree will be the Beverly Area Planning Association.
A bagpipe ceremony Thursday ahead of the announcement of the grand marshals and honoree for the 45th South Side Irish Parade at Cork & Kerry, 10614 S. Western Ave.
“Both ministries remind men and women of the positive impact that they have on the Chicago area,” Leslie said. “Chaplains walk alongside Chicago officers, firefighters and their families reminding them that they are never alone in their jobs despite the incredibly difficult situations and sacrifices that they may face.”
The parade has since grown to become the largest community based parade outside of Ireland, Leslie said. It includes festive floats, music and dancing, she said, and also features community schools, parish youth groups and small businesses.
