A crane tore through the walkway

Leith Walk in Edinburgh had to be taped off after the incident as the wheel of a crane tore through the walkway.

Images shared on social media show a plank of wood and mallet next to the cherry picker as the area was taped off, Edinburgh Live reports. The incident comes as thousands flocked to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival but pedestrians were able to safely navigate around the blockage, with a wallboard placed over the broken pavement.

Leith Walk underwent a massive £207m transformation that saw the extension of the tram lines go down to Newhaven, as well as introducing cycle paths, and wider pavements.
