The Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Friendship Garden brought thousands of people to Balboa Park. Saturday's event featured a cosplay contest, a taiko drum performance and Japanese street food.

Food vendors were serving up savory Japanese street food and sweeter options like mochi doughnuts. There was also a beer and sake garden in the Inamori Pavilion where guests could learn about the history of the distinctive Japanese alcohol. Kevin and Trisha Du stood nearby with their four-year-old daughter enjoying onigiri rice balls and sweet waffles. Trisha Du said it was their first time at the event and while the cherry blossoms were beautiful, it was difficult to navigate the crowded pathways with little ones and a stroller.
