Chelsea have recorded the worst financial losses in the Premier League for the second successive year,Aggregated losses across the top flight for the 2021-22 financial year are set to exceed £650million, down on the £1billion clubs lost in the midst of the pandemic in 2020-21., a marginal improvement on the £145.6m they lost the previous season but a figure which leaves them in a precarious position in terms of financial fair play.
Man United and Leicester City ran Chelsea close in terms of the heaviest deficits in the Premier League, while Man City’s £41.7m profit is the division’s highest. Meanwhile, the Premier League have referred Everton – who will post losses of £50-70m for 2021-22 – to an independent commission for an alleged breach, which could lead to a fine, points deduction, transfer embargo or spending cap.
